Right Click Speed Test

Click the right mouse button as fast as you can for five seconds. Only right clicks count.

How fast can you right click in 5 seconds?

Right click the box as fast as you can. The timer starts on your first right click. The browser menu is turned off inside the box.

How the right click test works

This version works like the standard click speed test with one change: only the right mouse button counts. Your first right click inside the box starts a five second timer. Every right click after that adds to the total, and left clicks are ignored. The browser normally opens a menu when you right click, but that menu is switched off inside the box, so nothing gets in the way.

At the end you see your CPS to one decimal, a rating, your click count and your best. Right click runs keep their own history, separate from your left click scores.

Why right clicking is usually slower

Most people find their right click score sits below their left click score, and there are good reasons for it.

Practice. The index finger does almost all everyday clicking. The finger on the right button spends most of its day resting.

Finger independence. The middle and ring fingers share tendons and muscles more closely than the index finger does. Moving one of them fast while the others stay still takes more effort.

Hand position. On many mice the right button sits a little further from where the hand naturally rests, so the finger works at a slightly awkward angle.

None of this means a slow right click is a problem. It just means the right button has more room to improve.

Which finger to use

You have two main choices:

  1. Middle finger on the right button. This is the normal resting position, so it is what you will use in real tasks. Train this if you want gains that carry over.
  2. Index finger moved across. Some people shift the index finger onto the right button for a test. It can score higher at first, but it is not how you click day to day.

Pick one and stick with it, or your history becomes a mix of two different things.

Comparing your two buttons

Run the left click version and this one on the same day with the same mouse. The gap between them shows how far your right button lags behind. For training tips and how to compare both buttons, see the right click CPS test. The main CPS test covers left click scores and techniques.

Right Click Speed Test FAQ

Why is my right click slower than my left click?

Most people press the right button with the middle finger, which gets far less practice than the index finger on the left button. The middle finger is also harder to move on its own, so each click takes a little longer.

Will the browser menu pop up during the test?

No. The right click menu is turned off inside the test box, so every press is counted instead of opening a menu. Outside the box the browser works as normal.

Do left clicks count in the right click test?

No. Only right clicks add to your score in this version. Left clicks are ignored, so a slip of the other finger does not change your result.
