Typing Games Racing

Four lanes, three fixed speed cars and one finish line. Here is how the typing race decides your place.

  1. You
  2. Easy car25 WPM
  3. Medium car40 WPM
  4. Fast car55 WPM

Race the cars by typing.

Your car moves forward with every correct letter. Fix mistakes to keep going. First to the end of the text wins.

The race layout

The track has four lanes stacked on top of each other. The top lane is labeled You and holds your car. The three lanes below each show a computer car with its name and speed: Easy car at 25 WPM, Medium car at 40 WPM and Fast car at 55 WPM. A dashed line at the right end of each lane marks the finish.

Every car is racing to the end of the same text. Your car’s position shows how much of the text you have typed correctly. Halfway through the passage, your car is halfway down the road.

Fixed speed cars

The computer cars start moving when the countdown says Go and drive at a steady pace until they reach the line. They do not react to you. That makes each car a clear benchmark. Beating the Medium car means you typed the passage faster than 40 words per minute would allow.

The standard text is one passage of about 55 words. Using simple division, here is roughly how long each car needs. Exact times vary a little with the length of the passage.

CarSpeedRough finish time
Easy car25 WPMabout 2 min 12 s
Medium car40 WPMabout 1 min 22 s
Fast car55 WPMabout 1 min

How placing works

When you type the last character, the race works out which cars would already have crossed the line. Your place is 1st plus one for each of them. The result screen shows your place, your words per minute and your accuracy. If you were not 1st, it names the speed of the next car you need to beat to move up.

Your WPM is measured from Go, not from your first key. A slow start costs you time just as it would in a real race.

Racing tactics

Start typing the moment you see Go. Then aim for rhythm over bursts, because a mistake parks your car while the others keep rolling. If you see a red letter, fix it straight away rather than typing on. When you can win the standard race, move to the fast typing games race with cars at 50, 70 and 90 WPM. For more on the cars themselves, see car typing games.

Typing Games Racing FAQ

Do the computer cars react to how I type?

No. Each car drives at one fixed speed from Go to the finish. They never speed up or slow down.

How is my place decided?

Your place is 1st plus one for every car that reached the finish before you. Beat all three cars and you are 1st.

Can I race against other people?

Not online. You race three computer cars, but friends can take turns on the same device and compare places.
