Play in any modern browser
This typing race is a web page and nothing more. Open it, press Start race and type. You never install an app or add a browser extension, and you never sign in. Your browser draws the track, the cars and the text, and the race ends with your place, words per minute and accuracy.
Because it is just a page, you can open it on whatever device is in front of you and switch between devices freely. Nothing is saved between races, so there is no progress to sync.
Laptops and desktops
A computer with a physical keyboard is the most natural way to play. Click Start race, keep your hands on the keys during the 3, 2, 1 countdown and start typing when it says Go. Keep your eyes on the text. The highlighted letter shows where you are, and a red letter means you need Backspace before your car moves again.
Chromebooks
This site is independent and not affiliated with or endorsed by Google or any Chromebook maker. The race simply runs in the Chromebook web browser like any other page, so you play it the same way as on a laptop. If you use a Chromebook at school, the network may have its own rules about which sites can load, so check with your teacher first.
Phones and tablets
On a touchscreen, tap the text box to bring up the on-screen keyboard. The race turns off autocorrect and autocapitalize in the typing box, but some phone keyboards still try to change words. If that happens, switch off autocorrect in your keyboard settings, because every character has to match exactly.
Expect lower speeds than on a full keyboard. A large Aalto University study measured about 36 WPM on smartphones, so the Easy car at 25 WPM is a fair first target on a phone. Hold the phone in the same position each time so your thumbs learn the layout.
Pick your race
The default race has cars at 25, 40 and 55 WPM. For slower opponents and shorter text, play the typing games for kids. To learn how a physical keyboard and a phone keyboard compare in more detail, read keyboard typing games. For a saved score, try the typing test.
