Memory Test Online

Five online memory tests that run in your browser on any device. Try the visual memory test here, or pick another below.

Remember which squares light up.

A few squares flash, then the board goes blank. Tap the ones that flashed. Three wrong taps on a level costs a life, and you have three lives.

What an online memory test can tell you

An online memory test gives you a count: how many digits, words, squares or steps you held in one run. That count is easy to compare. Most people remember 7 to 8 digits, score 25 to 45 on the verbal test, clear 7 to 9 levels of the visual test, repeat 6 to 9 steps on the sequence test and clear 7 to 9 numbers on the chimp test.

It is most useful as a personal baseline. Take the same test on different days and you can see whether practice or a new strategy is making a difference.

What it cannot tell you

A browser game cannot tell you whether your memory is medically normal. It cannot diagnose, screen for or rule out dementia, ADHD, memory loss or any other condition. Scores swing with sleep, stress, distraction and simple unfamiliarity with the rules. All five tests are also built around holding information for a short time, not your memory for last week or last year.

If you are worried about your memory, see a doctor.

Device tips

  • Use a keyboard for the number test if you can, since you type every answer.
  • On a phone, make sure the board is large enough to tap one square without touching its neighbor.
  • Silence notifications. One glance away during a flash can cost you the round.
  • Stick to one device and browser. Scores are saved in that browser and shown on your dashboard, so switching devices splits your history.

All five tests are free and need no account. The free memory test page has a short session plan if you want to try them all.

Memory Test Online FAQ

Is an online memory test accurate?

It is accurate at what it counts: the digits, words, squares or steps you got right in that run. It cannot tell you whether your memory is medically normal, and scores shift with sleep, stress and distraction.

Can an online memory test diagnose dementia or ADHD?

No. These are games for curiosity and self-tracking, and they cannot diagnose, screen for or rule out any condition. If you are worried about your memory, see a doctor.

Does the online memory test work on a phone?

Yes. All five tests run in a mobile browser and respond to taps. The number test asks you to type each answer, so a keyboard can be more comfortable for that one.
